BOARD APPLAUDS LEGISLATURE FOR PASSAGE OF A BALANCED BUDGET
Higher Education Spared From Additional Damaging Budget Cuts
(TOPEKA) – Today Board of Regents’ Chair Jill Docking, of Wichita, issued the following statement regarding the Legislature’s passage of the Fiscal Year 2011 budget:
“The Board applauds those legislators from both sides of the aisle who joined together to pass a budget that protects the state’s historical investment in its public universities and community and technical colleges.”
“The Board certainly recognizes that it’s never easy to support a tax increase, which is why those legislators who voted yes should be commended for their leadership, vision, courage, and commitment to making Kansas a better place.”
“Now is the time for regeneration – the time for the state to invest in its higher education system to lay the foundation for its future economic recovery. To those legislators who were willing to cast such critically important and responsible yes votes, thank you for investing in the future of Kansas.”
