BOARD OF REGENTS CHAIR ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING HAWKER BEECHCRAFT ANNOUNCEMENT

The following is a statement from Regents’ Chairman Gary Sherrer, of Overland Park, regarding today’s Hawker Beechcraft announcement – in particular, tuition reimbursement for Hawker Beechcraft employees, which was a key component of the state’s retention incentive package.

“We’re pleased that a key component of the incentive package was tuition reimbursement, as it underscores the critical role higher education plays in not only attracting new businesses to the state but also in retaining Kansas businesses. Higher education is an economic engine, which is why a strong higher education system is so critically important to the future of our state.”

About the Kansas Board of Regents:
The nine-member Kansas Board of Regents is the governing board of the state’s six universities and the statewide coordinating board for the state’s 32 public higher education institutions (seven public universities, 19 community colleges, and six technical colleges). In addition, the Board administers the state’s student financial aid, adult education, GED, and career and technical education programs. The Board also authorizes private proprietary schools and out-of-state institutions to operate in Kansas, and administers Kan-ed, a statewide network that provides broadband Internet access and distance learning capabilities for schools, hospitals, and libraries.
