BOARD APPLAUDS UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS CANCER CENTER ACHIEVEMENT

(TOPEKA) - Today, Board of Regents Chair, Tim Emert of Independence, issued the following statement in response to the University of Kansas Cancer Center announcement on receiving designation as a National Cancer Institute Cancer Center:

"The Kansas Board of Regents applauds the University of Kansas Cancer Center in its efforts to obtain designation as a National Cancer Institute Cancer Center. Today’s announcement marks years of intense and thoughtful effort to advance cancer diagnosis, treatment and research opportunities. The University of Kansas is helping lead the way to a brighter future in a nationwide effort to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with cancer. Kansans will continue to benefit from the outstanding medical treatment available through the University of Kansas Medical Center. Now patients will benefit from cutting-edge cancer treatments and therapies closer to their homes and families. To those involved in achieving this impressive honor, job well done."

About the Kansas Board of Regents:
The nine-member Kansas Board of Regents, founded in 1925 and established in the Kansas Constitution, is the governing board of the six state universities and the statewide coordinating board for the state’s 32 public higher education institutions (six state universities, one municipal university, 19 community colleges, and six technical colleges). In addition, the Board administers the state’s student financial aid, adult education, GED, career and technical education programs, and the state university retirement plans.
