KBOR > Qualified Admissions - How and When

How and When to Update the School's QA Web Page

Update the QA web page if the title of a course
changes or if a course is added or deleted

1. Read the "Detailed Requirements for QA Courses" and read all of the information below. Do not update your school's QA web page unless course titles have changed or courses have been added to or deleted from the QA curriculum. The curriculum remains in effect until it is replaced.
2. To make any changes in your school's QA web page Log onto your school's QA web page.

a.
Click on "add curriculum".

b.
Enter correct email address for all correspondence related to the QA curriculum .

c.

Select a future year. (Curricula are not approved retroactively).

3. Type ALL courses (including courses previously approved) to be considered for the Qualified Admissions pre-college curriculum into the web site; separate each course title with a comma. Do not include courses that are no longer offered.

a.
All courses are assumed to be 1 unit unless otherwise indicated. If the course is ½ unit, indicate in parentheses after the course name; for example - Computer Applications I (1/2).

b.

The abbreviation “AP” is assumed to mean “Advanced Placement,” unless otherwise indicated.

c.

Dual credit or “concurrent” courses must be included on the curriculum submission form; the community college/university offering the dual credit must be noted; for example – College Math (1/2; Highland CC).

d.

Double check to be sure that the title of the course exactly matches the entry on the student's transcript.
4.

To submit the curriculum to KBOR click on “Create Curricula”, located at the bottom of the form.

5.

Double check your school's profile to ensure that a curriculum is pending. Check to be sure the pending curriculum is correct. Once the curriculum has been approved by KBOR, it CANNOT be changed. Only one curriculum per academic year can be submitted.

Approval of the pending curriculum is NOT automatic. KBOR staff evaluates each pending curriculum. Only about 15% of pending curricula are approved as submitted; most pending curricula are approved after revision. About 10% of pending curricula are declined. Careful attention to the instructions below will facilitate prompt approval of your pending curriculum.

6.
Mail (or email as a Word attachment) any required documentation for course titles that did not appear on the previously approved QA curriculum.

a.
English: Submit the following completed form for each English course that did not appear on the previously approved QA curriculum (except AP courses; AP courses are exempt from this requirement): Qualified Admissions Reporting form for English
b.
Math: For each course that did not appear on the previously approved QA curriculum, submit the KBOR Review form for QA Courses in Mathematics if the title of the course does not exactly match any of the following:
Algebra I
Algebra II
Geometry
Trigonometry
Any AP Mathematics course
Any IB HL Mathematics course
Precalculus
Calculus
Special note for honors courses: Honors Algebra I, Algebra I Honors and similar courses would also be exempt from review.
c. Social Sciences: Only the courses listed below count toward Qualified Admission. For each course that did not appear on the previously approved QA curriculum, submit the review form if the title of the course does not exactly match any of the following:
Special note for honors, AP, and IB HL courses: Honors, AP (Advanced Placement), and IBHL courses with the above titles are also exempt from review.
d. Natural Sciences: For any course that did not appear on the previously approved QA curriculum, submit a checksheet if the title of the course does not exactly match any of the titles below. Checksheets can be found by clicking any of the titles below:
Biology
Advanced Biology

Any AP Science Course
Any IB HL Science Course
Special note for honors courses: Honors Biology, Biology Honors and similar courses would also be exempt from review.
Submit one of the three checksheets below, depending upon the content of the course:

i. Checksheet for courses equivalent to QA Advanced Biology. Advanced Biology is normally defined as a laboratory course that has a QA Biology course as a prerequisite.

ii. Checksheet for QA courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth/Space Science
iii. Checksheet for QA Principles of Technology
e. Computer Technology: Submit the following form for each course title that did not appear on the previously approved QA curriculum: KBOR Review Form for QA Courses in Computer Technology

7.

Remember, do not submit a QA curriculum unless changes are being made in QA courses.

8.

High schools are responsible for the accuracy of the approved curriculum posted on the KBOR web site. High schools are responsible for ensuring that the curriculum has been successfully submitted.  High schools are responsible for maintaining updated contact information on the QA web site.

  Important Notes
1.
Schools MAY NOT represent a course as fulfilling QA requirements until the course appears on the web page as an approved curriculum.

2.
Schools MUST submit QA materials in sufficient time to allow processing by KBOR before the QA curriculum becomes effective. KBOR will not be responsible for any repercussions caused by disapproval of a course. For example, if a curriculum is submitted for the 2004/2005 year in September 2004, KBOR will not be responsible for any students disadvantaged by disapproval of a course for the Qualified Admission pre-college curriculum.

3.

Courses are evaluated as a QA course according to the curriculum in effect at the time the student enrolled in the course. Therefore, the school should not include previous course titles or courses that are no longer offered.

4.
Decisions to accept or deny courses for the Qualified Admissions pre-college curriculum will be made on the basis of written material submitted by the school to KBOR.
