FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BOARD OF REGENTS' CHAIR ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING GOVERNOR-ELECT BROWNBACK'S STATEMENT THAT HE DOES NOT SUPPORT THE KANSAS COMMITMENTThe following is a statement from Regents’ Chairman Gary Sherrer, of Overland Park, regarding Governor-Elect Brownback’s statement today that he does not support the Regents’ Kansas Commitment plan: “In the Kansas Commitment, the Board has identified the resources needed to protect the state’s higher education infrastructure, keep college affordable, and boost the state’s economy. The Board’s position has not changed. Through the Kansas Commitment, we’ve provided the Governor-Elect and the Legislature with targeted investment opportunities that all produce much-needed economic growth. However, at the end of the day, it’s up to them to prioritize the state’s needs. Because higher education is an economic engine, we’ll continue to make the case to policymakers that higher education should be a greater priority. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” The Governor-Elect's statement can be found at online here. Additional information regarding the Kansas Commitment can be found here. ### About the Kansas Board of Regents: For more information, contact Kip Peterson at (785) 296-3421 or at kpeterson@ksbor.org.
