Mildred Edwards of Wichita was appointed to the Kansas Board of Regents by Governor Mark Parkinson in 2010. She is the Executive Director of the Kansas African American Affairs Commission in Topeka.
Edwards’ career has included work as a researcher at Wichita State University and Family Health International in North Carolina, as community mobilize and non-profit administrator, a business owner providing grant writing and consulting services for small and medium sized non-profit organizations, and as an assessor for Boeing Military Aircraft Company. She has been selected as a delegate to the Drexel University Vision 2020: An American Conversation about Women and Leadership project and the Kansas Leadership Center Civic Leadership program, and is a member of the Wichita Chapter of Links, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. – Beta Kappa Omega Chapter, and Junior League of Wichita. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Wichita State University Alumni Association.
Edwards received her bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration in 1996, a Master of Public Health degree in 1999 and her doctoral degree in Psychology in 2008 from Wichita State University. In her free time, she enjoys reading, music, theater, and traveling.
